Premier League clubs voted against a restriction on clubs loaning players to other teams owned by the same person.
Earlier last month, the proposed prohibition was presented to a vote. The restriction was viewed as a temporary measure to maintain the competition’s integrity while allowing time to find a more long-term solution.
To be approved, the amended regulation required the votes of at least two-thirds of the clubs (14 clubs) present at the meeting on Tuesday at The Churchill Hotel in Portman Square, London.
Despite the fact that 13 clubs backed the regulation, it did not receive enough votes to achieve the required threshold, forcing the FA to maintain the status quo.
Confirming the development, sports influencer Fabrizio Romano explained that Newcastle will now be able to sign players on loan from PIF-owned clubs.
“Premier League clubs voted unanimously against a ban on clubs loaning players from the same ownership group.” It means Newcastle can sign players on loan from PIF-owned clubs, as well as other clubs such as Crystal Palace with Lyon and other similar circumstances,” he said.
According to Naija News, until now, Premier League players were free to be sold during a single transfer window and then join a new club that agreed to either loan them back to the division or permanently move them there under the same ownership when the market reopened.
