Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-min guided South Korea to a 3-0 victory over Asia rivals China in Tuesday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification game.
Son, whose team has yet to lose a qualification match, scored two goals against China earlier today, as they continue to consolidate their dominance in Asia international football.
Son, the captain of Tottenham Hotspur and the South Korean national team, opened the scoring in the eleventh minute with a penalty shot in front of 40,000 fans in Shenzhen.
The penalty was awarded to the South Koreans after Wolves striker Hwang Hee-chan was fouled in the penalty area.
Son, 31, doubled the advantage with a deft header that flew past China goalkeeper Yan Junling and into the far corner while going unnoticed. This means he scored 41 goals for South Korea in 116 games.
In the 87th minute, the Tottenham Hotspur superstar assisted Jung Seung-hyun’s header, which clinched the resounding victory for South Korea.
South Korea, managed by Jurgen Klinsmann, currently leads Group C of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers with six points after a 3-0 victory over China and a 5-0 triumph over Singapore on Thursday.
China’s loss to South Korea pushed them to third place in the group, trailing Thailand, which defeated Singapore 3-1 on Monday.
