This article discusses the recruitment of Linkon Cure, a highly talented tight end from Goodland, Kansas, by major college football programs. Despite coming from a rural town with a population of less than 5,000 people, Cure has managed to catch the attention of prominent coaches from around the country, with 247Sports ranking him as the 27th overall prospect in the class of 2025.
Recruiting Cure presents a unique challenge for coaches, as accessing his town is not easy. Goodland is located two-and-a-half hours away from the nearest airport in Denver, making it difficult for coaches to visit and evaluate Cure’s skills. However, coaches have not been deterred by these logistical challenges, and eight head coaches recently made the journey to Goodland during the recent evaluation period.
Among these coaches were Kansas State’s Chris Klieman and Kansas’ Lance Leipold, who were able to travel to Goodland with relative ease due to their proximity. However, other coaches had to travel much further to reach Cure. For example, Oregon’s Dan Lanning, Oklahoma’s Brent Venables, Nebraska’s Matt Rhule, Penn State’s James Franklin, Texas A&M’s Mike Elko, and USC’s Lincoln Riley all had to devote a full day to travel in order to visit Cure.
Cure’s parents expressed their surprise and gratitude at the attention their son has received from college coaches. Both of them are surprised that their son, who grew up in such a small, remote town, has become such a sought-after recruit. Despite the challenges of recruiting a player from such a rural area, coaches continue to show interest in Cure, recognizing his exceptional talent and potential for success.
